[英語]A meme (/ˈmiːm/; meem)[1] is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture."[2] A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.[3]
[中文]模因（Meme）也稱為米姆[1]、瀰、瀰因、瀰母、迷因[2]、以及謎米等等，是文化資訊傳承時的單位[2]。模因目前比較公認的定義是「一個想法，行為或風格從一個人到另一個人的文化傳播過程。 」這個詞是在1976年，由理查·道金斯在《自私的基因》一書中所創造，將文化傳承的過程，以生物學中的演化規則來作類比[2]。模因包含甚廣包括宗教、謠言、新聞、知識、觀念、習慣、習俗甚至口號、諺語、用語、用字、笑話。

其實這個字的來源始於1976年一本書中的指文化資訊傳承用語，後來由於現在社群網路之發達，有很多人會利用圖片結合文字來傳達一些想法、趣聞、諺語等等之類的，並且在網路上快速的流傳，達到它傳遞資訊的效果，就像是一種文化傳承的行為一樣，所以meme就被用來使用在網路用語上囉!
當然meme有時會加上分類喔!譬如:ESL meme指的就是英語學習相關的圖文!
